CCA Applauds White House Response to Device Unlocking; Urges Prompt Congressional Action
Washington, DC – Today, the Obama Administration issued its response to the device unlocking ban and strongly supported allowing consumers to legally unlock their devices. CCA commends the White House’s response to the unlocking petition, and agrees that consumers should have the ability to take the device of choice to another network without risking criminal or other penalties.
“The fact that the White House issued such a quick response supporting the 100,000 plus signatures on the unlocking petition clearly indicates the need to put an end to the device unlocking ban,” said CCA President & CEO Steven K. Berry. “I am pleased the Administration recognizes that allowing consumers to take the device of choice to the network that best meets their needs will promote competition, spur innovation and benefit the economy.”
Berry continued, “Consumers, the FCC and the White House have spoken out, and it is now up to Congress to take action on this pro-consumer issue. CCA looks forward to working with Congress to ensure the U.S. Copyright Office’s decision is reversed, which certainly will help provide consumers the competitive choice they deserve.”
