CCA Congratulates FCC for Fashioning an Industry Solution for Interoperability

Washington, DC – Today, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC or Commission) announced that an industry solution has been reached to restore interoperability to the Lower 700 MHz spectrum band.  CCA congratulates Chairwoman Clyburn and the Commission for its tenacious work over the last several days to find a solution to interoperability, one of CCA members’ most important issues.

In a statement, CCA President & CEO Steven K. Berry said, “I wish to congratulate Chairwoman Clyburn for forging an industry solution that will help to restore interoperability to the lower 700 MHz band.  What we’ve seen here is a textbook example of leadership, coupled with innovative thought, producing sound public policy through good government.  Chairwoman Clyburn was willing to roll up her sleeves and get in the middle of dispute between carriers that had escaped resolution for over 4 years, until today.   Every CCA member appreciates her commitment and tenacity.  In particular, lower A block licensees like U.S. Cellular and C Spire Wireless will finally be able to use all of their lower 700 MHz spectrum, unleashing investment and innovation, helping to achieve the Administration’s goal of universal access to mobile broadband.  In turn, every consumer, especially rural and disadvantaged consumers who lack access to high speed broadband, will benefit from her efforts.”

“It is fitting that on the eve of the anniversary of 911, public safety will have the surety that they can leverage the many carriers deploying in the lower 700 MHz A block, creating competition for devices and services and lower costs.  I wish to thank all lower A block licensees who didn’t give up until they found a solution to this critical issue, Dish for its cooperative efforts, the Wireless Bureau staff for its expert technical and policy expertise, and of course, Chairwoman Clyburn, for making this happen.  This is a huge step forward for the competitive wireless marketplace.”
